September 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of IEEE Electrification Magazine (EM). In this issue, EM's founding editor-in-chief, Saifur Rahman, and the past editor-in-chief, Iqbal Husain, voiced their perspectives on the electrification technologies and their expectations of the magazine. This issue has seven feature articles, with four focusing on powering data centers. Data centers require not only strong connections to the power grid but also backup power, usually provided by diesel generators. Thus, carbon emissions have become a big concern for data centers. The related articles in this issue provide insights on various aspects of opportunities in power and energy technologies for data centers, including microgrids to integrate clean energy resources, controls, and communications in data centers, dynamic grid support services, etc. Contributors to this themed topic are all from the industry with first-hand experiences in powering data centers, e.g., Infrastructure Masons, Electric Power Research Institute, Schneider Electric, Eaton, Quanta Technology, Meta, and Vertiv. Additionally, this issue includes three feature articles on the following topics: silicon carbine inverters for heavy-duty applications, empowering rural communities via microgrids, and speeding up electromagnetic transient simulations for inverter-based resources. The history column article contributed by Marcelo Godoy Simo?es wraps up the two-part story of the technological evolution of induction motor drives.
